Tanager Drake Name Generator
By Jordan Kingsley · May 15, 2026 · Fantasy & RPG GeneratorsThere is a moment in every worldbuilding project when the drake needs a name, and a placeholder like Onyxaxgon has quietly become permanent. The tool below runs entirely in your browser and produces names that follow the sound patterns Drake fans expect; the first roll already gave us Onyxaxgon and Onyxaraaxys.
Tip: a keyword anchors the whole batch to your story.

Why Drake Names Sound the Way They Do
If a generated name feels like a mouthful, drop the middle syllable; Onyxaxgon trims down fine and keeps its character. The generator leans on that pattern. It pairs hard openers with flowing endings so a result like Onyxaxgon reads naturally in dialogue. Names like Onyxaxgon or Onyxaraaxys follow the classic two-beat rhythm that makes a name easy to shout across a tabletop. Say “Onyxaxgon” out loud and then “Onyxaraaxys” — both work because the consonant clusters stay pronounceable on the first try.

Tuning Tips: Getting Closer on the First Roll
Add a keyword first. The generator weaves it into some results, anchoring the batch to your story instead of handing you another Onyxaxgon. Change the style tab before changing anything else. Each tab shifts the syllable balance more than any single reroll — compare Onyxaxgon under one tab and Onyxaraaxys under another. Keep a shortlist. Names like Onyxaxgon that survive a second read the next morning are usually the ones worth keeping.
Traps That Make a Drake Name Fall Flat
Numbers stuffed into the middle of a fantasy name. If the setting has no digits in its lore, even a good build like Onyxaxgon breaks immersion. Stacking three rare letters because they look exotic on paper. “Onyxaxgon” reads fine; doubled clusters usually do not. Copying a trademarked name with one letter swapped. It reads as derivative next to an honest original like Onyxaxgon, and it invites takedowns.
Where These Names Earn Their Keep
Fiction writers use the reroll button as an idea pump — generate ten, keep the two that spark, and let a discard like Onyxaxgon name the sequel’s cast. Even casual users grab a batch for email handles, pets, or a private joke — Onyxaxgon has probably named somebody’s cat by now.
What a Drake Name Says Before You Do
If your drake belongs to a faction, borrow that faction’s favorite endings; a family of names like Onyxaxgon and Onyxaraaxys reads as one people. A name like Onyxaxgon suggests lineage and polish, while Onyxaraaxys hints at something wilder from the margins of the map. Game masters can use this: give the innkeeper a soft name and the mercenary a clipped one like Onyxaxgon, and players will read the room instantly.
